Indulgent Suffering
Interview with Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife

Often to determine if something is right or good or God’s will, we use pain, suffering, and sacrifice for a measuring stick. While I do not disagree that sometimes virtuous acts can be difficult and hard and inconvenient, I think we are missing the mark when we use “pain and suffering” as a way to determine is something is right or wrong.

It’s like we have this mental checklist. Is it inconvenient? Check. Is it opposite of what I want? Check. Is it going to require sacrifice? Check. Is it going to cause suffering? Check. Is it going to be hard? Check. Conclusion: This must be good, right, and God’s will.

I interviewed Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife about this indulgent suffering that as Christians we sometimes value. Follow the link below to read the interview.
